Working cancer patients invited to participate in Macmillan study

A Loughborough University study designed to develop practical guidance for cancer patients in work is looking for volunteers who were diagnosed with cancer no more than two years ago.

The study is being carried out on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support by researchers in Loughborough University’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences in partnership with the Affinity Health at Work Consultancies, based in London. It is being funded by the Department of Health.

The new guidance will be used by those affected by cancer and their healthcare provider, for example their oncology nurse, GP or consultant, and it could be used by their employer to help find a suitable solution for any workplace needs.

Lead researcher Dr Fehmidah Munir explains: “Following a review of the existing literature available on the work experiences of cancer patients and the results of focus discussion group, Macmillan Cancer Support have asked us to look into providing practical guidance for those affected by cancer.

“We need participants aged between 18 and 65 years old who were diagnosed with cancer no more than two years ago, who were employed at the time of diagnosis and are able to return to work, whether in the same or different employment. They will simply need to respond to a couple of emails and their input will then help us to refine the guide.”

All participants will receive a summary of the research findings.

For more information or to register your interest in participating in the consultation stage of the study, please contact Katryna Kalawsky on 01509 228151 or email: k.e.a.kalawsky@lboro.ac.uk
