Loughborough graduate Chris Thompson wins European silver

Loughborough University graduate Chris Thompson has won silver in the 10,000m at the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona.

Former University Sports Scholar Thompson came in behind Mo Farrah, making it a British one-two in the event.  Thompson pipped Italy’s Daniele Meucci to take silver in a time of 28:27.33.

His excitement was overwhelming in the post race interview.  “That was the greatest half-an-hour of my life!” he said.

“I thought - I've got to give everything here.  I'd been reading Steve Redgrave's book before the race, and he talked about once thinking he was gone halfway through a race, only to find his strength came back. That inspired me. I thought. -, this is my gold medal.”

Both Thompson and Farrah will also contest the 5,000m later in the week
