Loughborough University launches new MSc programme for Road and Vehicle Safety

A unique MSc programme focusing on road and vehicle safety has been launched by Loughborough University.

The course will be led by the University’s Vehicle Safety Research Centre, part of the Ergonomics and Safety Research Institute (ESRI) and home to the largest crash investigation research group in the world.

The Road and Vehicle MSc programme, which commences in October, is aimed at traffic safety practitioners who wish to extend and deepen their knowledge of this vast and expanding area of research.  The course will cover the theory and practice behind the major casualty reduction techniques associated with passive and active vehicle safety systems, road infrastructure, driver performance and road safety policy.

ESRI has more than 25 years of expertise in both crash and injury prevention and works closely with government, industry and academic bodies.  In August the Institute will be merging with the Department of Ergonomics and the Department of Design and Technology to form the Loughborough Design School.  This exciting development will broaden the base of ESRI’s interdisciplinary design work and the purpose built Design Centre, due to open in 2011, will provide state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities.
