Poet Laureate comes to Loughborough

Carol Ann Duffy

Poet Laureate - Carol Ann Duffy

Loughborough University has confirmed that Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy will be appearing on campus at the Polyverse Poetry Festival, which is to be held between Friday, 24 July and Sunday, 26 July.

The festival, which takes place in Martin Hall, is the brainchild of poet and former student Radcliff Gregory, who has put together a line-up of forty poets, including the presence of the Poet Laureate.  Polyverse will feature a wide range of poets, with festival-goers also able to try a writing workshop, meet the poets and find out more about poetry in the region.

Creative Writing lecturer Kerry Featherstone said: “I have no doubt that this is going to be a fantastic event.

“We have 200 tickets on sale and we are expecting demand to be high due to the presence of the Poet Laureate, along with a whole host of excellent poets.

“If you like poetry, as a writer or reader, you really should attend. There’s something for everyone - funny poems, topical poems, theatrical performances and workshops.  It’s going to be a great weekend.”

The festival has been supported by several organisations including Leicestershire Libraries, Writing East Midlands and particularly the Literature Network, who helped to bring Carol Ann Duffy to the event.
