Loughborough University and Caterpillar UK Ltd have agreed to collaborate on research to investigate new technologies for future Cat products.

This will be the first such agreement in Europe and involves the creation of an Innovation and Research Centre at Loughborough University.

Gwenne Henricks, Caterpillar Vice President, Industrial Power Systems Division and Professor Shirley Pearce, Vice Chancellor and President of Loughborough University signed the agreements on 25 June to launch the new centre.

The agreement builds on a successful relationship, forged over many years, in which the Loughborough research teams have explored pioneering technologies under Caterpillar guidance.  Through this research, Loughborough has supplied technologies to improve engine and machine performance, exhaust emissions reductions as well as ever more fuel-efficient operation.

Professor Pearce said: “This is an important next step in the development of our  relationship with Caterpillar - the world leader in its field.

“The work we have done with Caterpillar so far has been driven by many engineering challenges and has required a combination of the best academics, a history of achievement and the best of modern facilities. I am pleased we have managed to make such a positive contribution so far and am certain this will continue as our relationship develops.”
