University celebrates Japan Day

If you’ve ever fancied trying sushi, or think you might be good at martial arts, then come along to Loughborough University on Saturday 7 March for ‘Japan Day’ – a celebration of Japanese arts, music and culture.

Visitors will be able to see or take part in a variety of activities, ranging from kimono dressing and origami, to Shiatsu therapy and Noh theatre (traditional Japanese drama). There will also be information available during the day on Japanese gardens, travel and the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET).

The day, which is being organised in association with the Leicestershire Japan Society and the Embassy of Japan in the UK, is also part of the programme organised by the Embassy to celebrate 150 years of friendship between the two countries.

“Japan Day offers a rare opportunity to sample so much of Japan’s unique and fascinating culture. We have a packed programme which promises to offer something for everyone!” says Jon Inegbedion, Deputy Director ofLoughborough University’s International Office.

The events will take place between 10.30am and 4.30pm in the Edward Herbert Building in the centre of the University campus. Entrance is free of charge and advance booking is not required.
