Applications to Loughborough rise by more than twice the national average

The number of students applying to study full-time courses at Loughborough University has increased by 19%, according to the latest statistics released by UCAS today (16 February).

The rise, which is significantly greater than the national average of 7.8%, puts Loughborough among the top ten universities in the UK for applications. Loughborough has also seen the largest increase of the East Midlands’ universities.

“The rise in applications shows that demand for places at one of the country’s leading universities remains high,” says Howard Jones, senior assistant registrar. “Applications to Loughborough have traditionally been strong, but it is pleasing to see such a significant increase for this year.”

Ian Cairns, the University’s Director of Marketing and Communications, says Loughborough’s recent successes could be a key factor behind the high number of applications.

“This year we were awarded the coveted University of the Year title by The Sunday Times, and won the Times Higher Award for the UK’s Best Student Experience for the third successive year. In the National Student Survey, 91% of the University’s full-time students rated their overall satisfaction with their course as ‘four’ or ‘five’ on a five-point scale.

“The fact that our own students rate Loughborough so highly is a very powerful endorsement.”
