Santa Claus is coming to campus

Santa Fun Run

Previous participants preparing for the off.

Loughborough University is hosting the fifth annual Great Loughborough Santa Fun Run in just over a week’s time (Sunday 6 December).

Organised by the Rotary Club of Loughborough, the Great Santa Fun Run is the largest of its kind in the East Midlands.

This year organisers are hoping to attract in excess of 1200 runners for the 6km charity run which starts at 11am and follows a circular route from the University’s running track and through the centre of Loughborough.

Last year 1076 fun runners raised £43,000 which benefited 45 charities. The main beneficiaries for 2009 are Rainbows, LOROS, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Children’s Hospices UK, as well as other Rotary charities, and runners can also raise funds for charities of their choice.

Teams of up to eight people can also enter to challenge for the Bateman’s Brewery Cup, which is awarded to the best dressed team. Last year 42 teams entered.

The event is suitable for runners and walkers of all abilities and the emphasis is on fun. Participants include seasoned runners, joggers, walkers and family groups with babies, children and even their pet dogs.

All participants receive the Great Loughborough Santa Fun Run medal.

Entry costs £12 per person, with reductions for teams, and runners are encouraged to raise additional funds through sponsorship. To enter log onto www.raceentry.co.uk, contact David Hollins on 0116 229 0495 for an entry pack or pick up an entry form from the Tourist Information Office at the Town Hall or Loughborough Building Society in the High Street.
