Athletics chiefs are quick off the mark with Business School pilot programme

IAAF pilot launched by PMDC

The management and leadership pilot course titled IAAF Academy - Chief Executive Officers was delivered by the Business School's Professional and Mangement Development Centre (PMDC)

Loughborough University’s Business School has welcomed senior athletics figures from across the globe for a pilot workshop delivered in conjunction with the sport’s world governing body the IAAF.

The management and leadership pilot titled IAAF Academy – Chief Executive Officers was designed to help chief executives run their federations and covered topics including governance and HR issues, marketing, coaching, strategy and stakeholder analysis.

Inspirational coach Frank Dick and Coca-Cola’s London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games lead Daryl Jelinek came onto campus to deliver sessions for the group, which comprised chief executives and senior figures from organisations including the IAAF, European Athletics, Athletics Canada, UK Athletics and the Oceania Athletics Association.

The course was delivered by the Business School’s Professional and Management Development Centre (PMDC) which has been providing management education programmes tailored to the needs of a wide range of industries for over 25 years.

Acting PMDC Director Alison Smith is delighted to be working alongside the International Association of Athletics Federation to develop a bespoke course appropriate for its members.

“This pilot allowed us to deliver a tailored programme to chief executives of some of the leading athletics federations in the world and gain some valuable feedback from them,” she said. “Everyone involved has committed to helping us develop the programme further before it is formalised as part of the IAAF training programme.

“It’s a huge opportunity both in terms of furthering our reputation as a leading business school and helping the University develop stronger international links. Working alongside major names in international athletics underlines the importance of the programme and the role Loughborough has to play.”
