University Community Donations Fund re-launched

Loughborough University is delighted to announce arrangements for its Community Donations Fund for the 2009/10 academic year.

Launch of the funding arrangements for this year follows the successful pilot project undertaken at the end of the last academic year, which saw £10,000 awarded to 23 organisations from across the Charnwood region.  A wide range of projects and activities received support, including sports clubs, music organisations, residents’ associations and groups for women and those with special needs.

Two categories of support were initially available – an Open Fund  of £5,000 aimed at all community groups and an Inside Out Fund also of £5,000 aimed at staff.  These will again be available and will be supplemented by an Educational Fund of £5,000 and a Strategic Fund of £10,000.  A phased approach, to coincide with the University terms, will be applied to the bidding and funding process.

The full programme is:

The Strategic Fund will be allocated during the course of the year following a review of local needs as part of a strategic engagement project.  The University will be seeking to work closely with partner agencies such as Charnwood Borough Council and organisations within the voluntary sector to assess where the funding should be allocated.

In order to be considered for support from the Donations Fund projects/organisations must be Charnwood based and non political in nature.  In addition only specific or identifiable projects will be considered, rather than,  for example, administration costs.  The University will look particularly favourably on projects or activities that increase engagement between the University and the community.

For the Educational Fund, the University will take a very broad approach to assessing projects for funding, not just those associated with formal learning/educational development.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Shirley Pearce comments:

“We were thrilled with the success of the pilot project last year and are delighted to be able to roll out the Donations Fund this year to the four full categories.  We look forward to being able to help out a broad range of local community groups and in particular being able to contribute funding to help address real issues in our community.”
