Loughborough’s footballers have been given an early season boost after the University’s Enterprise Office announced a sponsorship deal to provide vital resources and support to the students’ non-league team.

The Enterprise Office supports Loughborough University’s commercially-based relationships with industry and commerce, and facilitates enterprise and knowledge transfer activities. The sponsorship agreement will help promote its Innovation Centre, with the Centre’s new branding featuring on both the team’s home and away kits.

A wholly owned subsidiary of the University, the Innovation Centre provides affordable and flexible office and laboratory accommodation, expertise and support to businesses, helping them to grow and achieve their goals.

The sponsorship, which has been agreed for a year initially, sees the Enterprise Office’s support turn pitch-side and it is hoped the additional income for the league side will help support its first year in the Midlands Football Alliance, giving players the opportunity to play high level football alongside their academic studies.

Loughborough University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise) Professor Phill Dickens hopes the financial support will provide valuable assistance to the newly-promoted team.

“We’re delighted to be able to support Loughborough’s footballers through the Innovation Centre brand,” he said. “The Innovation Centre has a reputation for nurturing ambitious businesses and helping them achieve their potential and we hope to do the same for the football team who have already shown huge ambition and talent to become the country’s top student side.”

Loughborough students football club boasts the highest-playing university side in the country. Winners of last year’s national BUCS student Championships, the league team also gained promotion into the Midlands Alliance where they currently sit in the top half of the table.

Head Coach Tom Curtis is thankful to the Enterprise Office for the support it has shown to the club.

“The Enterprise Office sponsorship is vital for the continuation of our league programme,” he said. “The sponsorship will help cover a variety of essential costs including transport, kit and equipment as well as physiotherapy and medical support for the players.”
