Student’s ad wins Panasonic competition

A TV advert made by Loughborough University Graphic Communication student James Fox has won Panasonic’s Next Generation Talent Competition 2008.

Panasonic teamed up with Young Creative’s Network (YCN) to challenge students across the country to create a film, storyboard or print ad that tells the story of the new Panasonic Viera Home Hub TV. A judging panel drew up a shortlist of six entries and then members of the public were asked to vote for their favourite ad.

James’s ad centres around a Perspex box, which is utilised by a series of people for different purposes, representing the wide scope of the Home Hub TV.

“I focused in on the line of Panasonic’s brief that said ‘It’s not just a TV, it’s an HD home entertainment hub’,” explains James (23), who originates from Royston in Hertfordshire. “I wanted to show how the home entertainment hub connects family and friends together and that the new TV allows you to do so much more than just watch television.”

John Dixon, head of brand communications at Panasonic, comments: “Our competition was designed to engage and encourage the next generation of creative talent in the UK. All the shortlisted entries were excellent and the votes cast showed that it was really tough to pick a winner. However, James’s video ad demonstrated an exceptional and highly creative grasp of what the Home Hub TV is all about.”

As the winner James will receive over £2,500 of Panasonic equipment including a stunning 42” plasma TV and a week’s experience at one the company’s creative agencies. Loughborough University will also receive £2,500 worth of Panasonic products.

James’s advert can be viewed online at www.nextgenerationtalent.co.uk/winners/ and could even be run alongside Panasonic’s new Viera campaign.

“Having the chance to be a part of the next Panasonic ad campaign would be an amazing opportunity,” says James. “It’s the kind of experience one can only dream of as a student. I want to give a massive thank you to my friends and staff at Loughborough University that gave up their time to help me.”
