Loughborough Student wins top award at London ceremony

Loughborough University Business School student Davina Jones has received a national award for her work in training home care staff.

She was presented with the Home Care Trainer Award 2008 at the Ceretas National Home Care Awards, held in London.

Sponsored by The Royal Bank of Scotland, the Ceretas awards aim to promote best practice within home care and pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

The Home Care Trainer Award acknowledges the importance of the role of the trainer within the home care sector. It recognises the person who has shown incredible enthusiasm and determination in identifying the training and development needs of home care staff.

Davina said: “I had a fantastic night. It was such an honour to win the award. It’s nice that my work is appreciated and has been recognised at a national level in this way.”

Davina, who lives in Llanrwst, Wales, is studying on the University’s part-time postgraduate programme in Back Care Management and is also the Back Care Adviser for Conwy Council.

Home carers are susceptible to back pain as their work with clients involves frequent heavy lifting, twisting and bending. Providing manual handling training is important to help make sure carers’ backs are not put at unnecessary risk.
