University honours distinguished people

At Loughborough University’s winter graduation ceremonies, which will take place on Monday 15 December, honorary degrees will be conferred upon four distinguished people in recognition of the outstanding contributions they have made to sport, the University and business.

At the morning ceremony, which will take place at 10.30am, the University’s former Director of Estates Roy Hill will be presented with the award of Honorary Doctor of the University (Hon DUniv), in recognition of his services to the University.

Professor David Hughes – Managing Director of the Business Innovation Group LLP – will also receive the award of Honorary Doctor of Technology (Hon DTech), for contributions to technology management and government policy on innovation.

In the afternoon at 2.30pm, Professor Phil Roberts, the University’s former Deputy Vice Chancellor, will be given the award of Honorary Doctor of Technology (Hon DTech), for his outstanding service to the University and to design education.

The Founding Chairman of the World Anti-Doping Agency, Richard Pound, will also be presented with the award of Honorary Doctor of Letters (Hon DLitt), in recognition of his sustained leadership on the issue of ethical sport.

Notes for editors:

  • Members of the media are welcome to attend the graduation ceremonies, which will take place in the Sir David Wallace Building on the University campus. There will also be opportunities for interviews, photography and filming of the honorary graduates in the Sir John Beckwith Centre for Sport (Lecture Theatre) thirty minutes prior to the start of each ceremony.
