Loughborough University Business School joins international elite

Loughborough University’s Business School has been awarded accreditation to EQUIS, the leading international benchmarking system for business schools around the world.

To gain EQUIS accreditation, which is awarded by the European Foundation for Management Development, institutions must demonstrate high quality in all their activities, plus a significant degree of internationalisation. Their programmes must offer a balance between high academic quality and professional relevance provided by close interaction with the corporate world. EQUIS also attaches particular importance to a learning environment that favours the development of students’ managerial and entrepreneurial skills, and fosters their sense of global responsibility.

Accreditation will enable the Business School to further enhance its international activities by enabling students to transfer ‘study credits’ between member schools, providing additional opportunities for international staff and student exchanges, and providing further opportunities for research collaboration.

Professor Ian Davidson, Director of the Business School, said: “The Business School is delighted to have gained EQUIS accreditation, which confirms our positioning as one of the world’s leading business schools. This prestigious accreditation will increase the opportunities for us to extend our network of international collaborations which will further enhance our research, programme development and student experience, areas in which Loughborough already has significant strengths.”

Professor Julio Urgel, Director of EQUIS, commented: “Students who choose to study at an EQUIS accredited school can be assured they are attending an institution with high international standards of quality, a significant level of internationalisation, a balance between high academic quality and professional relevance and that the needs of the corporate world are well integrated into programmes, activities and processes.”

“Finally and most importantly, students can be assured that they will receive international recognition for their qualification, which is extremely important in today’s global environment.“

The Business School offers undergraduate, Masters and research degree programmes, as well as a number of post-experience courses. It also delivers two part-time undergraduate programmes in Singapore. A key feature of the School’s Loughborough-based undergraduate degrees is the placement year, whereby students spend at least 45 weeks working with industrial or professional companies.

The School also enjoys extensive industrial partnerships, including a long-standing collaboration with the Ford motor company. Ford finances the Business School’s Centre for Automotive Management, which conducts motor industry research and provides strategic level teaching at the Henry Ford College – an £11m, Loughborough University-based centre which is responsible for the retail and management training of motor industry employees throughout Europe.
