Loughborough student’s work presented to Nottingham Castle

A stunning solid silver water jug, created by Loughborough University student Musa Butt, has been presented to Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.

The jug was the winning design in this year’s Young Designer-Silversmith competition. The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths runs the annual competition for young designer-silversmiths, currently undertaking a BA or MA in Silversmithing in the UK.

Musa, a student in the University’s School of Art and Design who originates from Nairobi, Kenya, made the jug in the London Goldsmiths workshop of Clive Burr. The finished piece was presented to the Nottingham City Museums and Galleries service by The Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, and a plaque was also given to the University in celebration of his success.

Professor Marsha Meskimmon, head of the School of Art and Design, said: “We are incredibly proud of Musa, his jug is absolutely stunning and a worthy winner of this prestigious competition. To see it completed in solid silver is fantastic and now it can be viewed and enjoyed by all.”
