Art and design student scoops New Designers award

Loughborough University art and design student Anri Moolman has clinched a top award at one of the design industry’s most coveted events.

Anri (22) picked up the Tigerprint Award at this year’s New Designers exhibition, for her stunning printed textiles designs. She has been awarded £1,500 and a one-month paid work placement at Tigerprint, which is the sole supplier of exclusive cards and gift wrapping to Marks and Spencer.

New Designers is the foremost event in graduate design showcasing the work, energy and talent of some 4,000 designers every July at the Business Design Centre in London. The exhibition is split into two parts, with all the major design disciplines – including illustration, animation, photography and product design – represented.

According to the judges, Anri’s confident use of bold colour and demonstration of strong technical skills shone through in her work.

“I have had an amazing time designing my collection and it feels great to have my skills and design ability recognised within such a personal project,” said Anri, who is set to graduate from Loughborough later this month with a degree in Printed Textile Design.

“Hopefully in the future I will be able to set up my own design business.”

In total 27 students from Loughborough University School of Art and Design (LUSAD) had their work displayed in part one of the New Designers exhibition, which took place from 3 to 6 July.

Students from both LUSAD and the Department of Design and Technology will exhibit their work in part two between 10 and 13 July.
