Summer of sporting fun for children on offer at Loughborough University

After the success of last year’s inaugural multi-sport camps, Loughborough University is again offering children the opportunity to use the world class facilities on campus to improve their sporting skills this summer.

The multi-sport camps offers children the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities that are not only fun but teach sports skills, co-ordination, team work and leadership.

“The multi-sports camps were a phenomenal success last year,“ said Loughborough University’s Community Development Officer Ian Gaunt. “We had a massive amount of positive feedback from the parents and kids, with many saying the camps were the best their children had been to.”

The camps are split into three teams, based on age groups. “Team Nike” is specifically targeted for younger children with the emphasis on having fun and developing skills such as hand-eye coordination, teamwork and spatial awareness.

Members of Team Nike will play sports such as football and cricket and playground games like dodgeball and stuck in the mud to add a fun element.
Children aged between 8-10 will be part of “Team Hercules”.

“This team had a lot of fun last year and were definitely the loudest group we had on campus all summer,” added Gaunt.

Team Hercules members will be involved in many of the common sports like athletics and netball along with other new sports they may not have tried like orienteering and Rock-It-Ball.

“Team Zeus”, for children aged 11-14, will be the senior members of the camp and will be coached to their specific needs and expected to lead the way for the other members of camp. Members of Team Zeus will develop confidence and leadership skills in a sporting environment.

“We think there is something to interest all children, whatever their ability,” added Gaunt.

“Demand is pretty high and parents are urged to check on the dates and book early to avoid disappointment.”
