Dobriskey confirmed for Accenture Loughborough International Athletics match

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lisa Dobriskey has confirmed she will compete at the Loughborough International Athletics (LIA) match at Loughborough University on 20 May.

The match will be Dobriskey’s 2007 outdoor season debut after recovering from a stress fracture in her leg that curtailed her progress in 2006.

Dobriskey will compete in the 3,000 metres at the match, which includes teams from Loughborough University, England, Scotland, Wales, British Students and the British under-20 squad. Weather permitting she may threaten fellow Loughborough alumni Paula Radcliffe’s meeting record of 8:54.00.

“The match will be a test of how Lisa’s winter has gone and how far she has come since recovering from that rather frustrating injury,” said LIA director George Gandy.

“She had a series of good performances during the indoor season but subsequently incurred a minor injury. She is now fully recovered and is really looking forward to getting back on the track.”

Dobriskey, who won the Commonwealth 1500m title in Melbourne last year, finished fifth in the 3,000m at the European Indoors championships in Birmingham in March, taking an impressive 15 seconds off her pre-2007 personal best.

“This is a good reflection of how things are going and its nice to mark how things are going in training,” she said at the Indoor championships. “You can do the sessions but it doesn’t always show where you’re going.
“I think this has been brilliant preparation for the1500 and I’m going to use it for the summer.”

The first field event begins at 1100 with the first track event starting at 1200. Tickets are available from Loughborough University’s sports reception on 01509 226250. Adult tickets are £5, with concessions £3.
