Award brings Duncan a taste of success

The innovative business thinking of Loughborough University’s Duncan Cressall has netted him a coveted catering industry award.

Duncan, who is Operations Director at imago Services – the University’s in-house catering operation – has been honoured with the University/College Award at this year’s Cost Sector Catering Awards.

Now in their 13th year, the Cost Sector Catering Awards offer food service caterers the chance to be judged by their peers and win industry-wide recognition. There are 17 awards in total, which acknowledge a range of professions in the industry, from chefs to marketing managers. The University/College Award recognises the person judged to have had a significant influence on the provision of food service to students, or on the development of commercial operations such as the conference and banqueting market.

Duncan was nominated for the award by imago’s senior operations team, in recognition of the changes he has brought to the services offered by imago. Three new brands – Fuel, Taste and Dine – have been developed to reflect the different but complementary food services offered; since their introduction, food and drink sales have risen by almost 23%. Loughborough also became the first university in the country to adopt a new ‘interactive’ food analysis system that automatically provides customers with online nutritional information about the food they are eating and allows students to set up their own food diaries.

Duncan said: “I am honoured to receive this award from my peers, and am privileged to work with a great team at the country’s number one university as voted by our customers. Imago leads the field in delivering hospitality services at UK universities.”

Duncan was presented with his award at a ceremony at the London Metropole Hotel on 11 April.
