University appoints first dedicated sports PR officer

Greg Stutchbury has joined Loughborough University as its first dedicated sports public relations officer.

He will act as the first point of contact for the media with any queries on the hundreds of athletes training at the University’s world class facilities, the cutting-edge research from Loughborough’s dedicated sports academics and the numerous policy units and sporting organisations based at the University. He will also attend national and international sporting events at which Loughborough’s elite athletes are competing.

“We are very pleased that Greg has joined our team,” said Loughborough’s Director of Sport Chris Earle. “His experience as a former sports journalist and as a current postgraduate student at Loughborough will bring a unique perspective to the University’s goal of providing students with the framework to achieve academic and sporting excellence.”

A New Zealand-born journalist, Greg spent nearly seven years working for international news agency Reuters, five of which were on the global sports desk in London. While there he covered numerous international sporting events ranging from the Manchester Commonwealth Games to the 2003 Rugby World Cup and British and Irish Lions rugby tour of New Zealand.

He is currently enrolled on the University’s MSc Sports and Leisure Management Programme and will complete his studies later this year, hopefully he says, just before All Blacks captain Richie McCaw lifts the William Webb Ellis Trophy in Paris.

“I am delighted to join the University in this new role. Loughborough’s reputation from its sports facilities and training opportunities, educational standards and sports-related research is among the best in the world. The challenge is to enhance that reputation even further,” Greg added.
