Companies to benefit from product design service

Companies of all sizes are being invited to set product design briefs for Loughborough University’s Design and Technology students, as part of the department’s annual DesignWeek.

DesignWeek is a well established, highly successful initiative, run each year during early February. Open to companies of any size, from any sector and location, it enables students to work on real life design briefs and allows companies to benefit from some of the freshest design ideas around. Organisations that have previously worked with the University during DesignWeek include Boots, BBC Audiobooks, Diageo, Glow-Worm and Morphy Richards.

Paul Wormald, DesignWeek coordinator, says the initiative is rewarding for both the companies and the students involved.

“Companies are able to access exceptional design work from students on one of the best product design courses in the country. It costs the company absolutely nothing and once DesignWeek is finished they can negotiate the project’s exploitation with the University if they want.”

“For the University’s students, DesignWeek represents the opportunity to take on a real life client project from diverse industry sectors, which often acts as a spring board for further product development and commercial exploitation,” he added.
