Cricket clinics aim to inspire youngsters

Loughborough University is again offering youngsters the opportunity to hone their cricket skills and maybe even set them on their path to becoming the next Monty Panesar or Kevin Pietersen.

The clinics will take place in the state-of-the-art ECB National High Performance Cricket Centre on campus. On offer to boys and girls aged 8-16, the six week course will start on Sunday 11 November. Sessions, which are taken by ECB-qualified coaches, will take place between 5pm–7pm.

“The clinics coincide with the beginning of England’s test series in Sri Lanka and after the one-day side won their first series there earlier this month, we have had quite a bit of interest in the clinics,” said community sports officer Ian Gaunt.

“This is the sixth series of cricket clinics we have run and they have always been over-subscribed so I would encourage parents to enrol their budding young players as soon as possible.”

Gaunt added that all levels of skill and ability will be catered for and the course will give children the opportunity to learn the basics of the game, improve or even perfect their batting, bowling or fielding techniques.

The course will cost £60 for all six sessions. Anyone requiring further information or to book a place for the clinics should contact Sports Reception on 01509 226250. Booking forms can also be downloaded off the Internet at http://www.loughboroughsport.com/kids.
