Community information on offer to students at Bazaar event

A range of vital advice and information for students about living in the Loughborough community will be on offer at an event taking place this weekend (Sunday 30th September) on the University campus.

The event, known as the community students bazaar, is aimed at students returning to the University for their second and third years, particularly those who will be living off campus. It brings together in one location a range of advice organisations, businesses and service providers.

Charnwood Borough Council will have five stalls on the day to provide students with information on refuse and recycling, housing and environmental health, parking permits, crime prevention and general information about living in Charnwood.

The Leicestershire Constabulary stall will focus on safety, security and crime prevention advice, including property marking and cycle coding.

They major supermarkets will be represented along with insurance providers and media service providers.

Loughborough Students Union will be promoting its Community Students Association and the University will have stands which will provide students with accommodation advice, housekeeping tips and general advice on how to be a good neighbour. The University’s bicycle shop, ‘Cogz’ will also have a stall.

Those calling in at the bazaar will have the opportunity to take home a free mug which promotes the sshh campaign (silent students happy homes).

Students returning to University have to re-register for their studies and this event has been located and timed to coincide with this. Up to 6000 students attend the registration process and it is hoped that many of these will also visit the bazaar event. Students with placards will advertise the event to students as they register.

Alison Barlow, Loughborough University’s community relations officer said: “This is the third year we have organised an event of this type which is specifically aimed at supporting our returning students, providing them with all the information they need to know about living off campus.”
