Abstracts invited for I3CON conference

Abstracts are invited for the first international conference on Industrialised, Integrated, Intelligent Construction (I3CON), being held at Loughborough University in May 2008.

The conference is a major milestone for the I3CON project, which is aiming to create a European construction industry capable of building the ‘homes and offices of tomorrow’. The €17.5 million research project brings together 26 partners from 14 countries, including the University’s European Union Research Group (EURG), based in the Department of Civil and Building Engineering. Loughborough is the only UK university involved in the project.

I3CON will apply innovative construction and production technologies to enable the development of a sustainable and environmentally friendly construction industry that can deliver the ‘intelligent’ buildings of the future. These buildings will be flexible with adaptable spaces that are able to monitor their own environments, using less energy and producing less waste. Using state-of-the-art production technologies they will have services, such as electricity, communications and plumbing, already built into the structure, streamlining the entire construction process.

Abstracts for the conference are invited on recent advances in the field of industrialised, integrated and intelligent buildings. The deadline for abstracts is 14 September 2007 and submissions should be emailed to I3CONF@lboro.ac.uk. The conference is taking place from 14 - 16 May 2008. For a full list of topics of interest for the conference, and further information about the event visit: http://www.I3CON.org
