Loughborough appoints Director of Marketing and Communications

Ian Cairns has joined Loughborough University as its first-ever Director of Marketing and Communications.

He has been appointed to lead the way in developing a new strategic approach to marketing at Loughborough and in shaping the University’s response to the challenges that lie ahead in markets that are increasingly sophisticated and competitive.

Ian comes to Loughborough from the University of Lincoln, where he was Director of Marketing and Recruitment. During his eight years at Lincoln, the University achieved a larger percentage increase in undergraduate admissions than any other East Midlands’ university.

Prior to this Ian was Assistant Director of Marketing at De Montfort University in Leicester and held other marketing posts in academic institutions.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), and has substantial experience and expertise in the fields of business-to-business marketing, student recruitment, Internet marketing, campaign management and brand development.

Commenting on his new appointment, Ian said: “I am delighted to be joining a university that has such a strong reputation in a number of markets. The challenge will be to bring together all the marketing activities to develop a strong university brand.”
