Syan signs sponsorship deal with Loughborough hockey

Syan, the specialist in IT outsourcing, has announced that it will sponsor Loughborough University’s men’s hockey 1st team squad from 1 January 2007.

Syan’s sponsorship is part of the company’s strategy to support key sports in the UK, particularly in the build up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Loughborough is one of England’s foremost men’s outdoor teams and has represented England in European Indoor Championships on a number of occasions. Loughborough has produced a stream of international players over a period of many years. Current full England players from Loughborough include co-captain Glenn Kirkham, Jon Bleby, Jerome Goudie, and the most recent cap, Adamson Harper.

The sponsorship will enable the University to increase coaching capacity and support the further development of elite hockey at Loughborough.

Syan already sponsors the University’s rugby team. Since its association with the company began, the Loughborough men’s First XV have won the BUSA (British Universities Sports Association) final at Twickenham and the Leicestershire County Cup. More recently the team beat Hull Ionians 22-7 in the first round of the EDF Energy National Trophy. Hull are placed two divisions higher.

“Syan has a history of sporting sponsorship and I am very pleased that we have now extended our association with Loughborough,” said George Djuric, Managing Director of Syan. “We are keen to provide support to the UK’s Olympic effort and Loughborough is a centre of excellence that has a track record for producing winners in many sporting disciplines.”

Andy Borrie, Head of Performance Sport at Loughborough University, said: “We are delighted that Syan have the vision to invest in Loughborough. We know that many of the next generation of Olympians are currently in higher education. Loughborough is the premier university for sport in the UK and with Syan’s support Loughborough hopes to produce a significant of number of outstanding players for both the Beijing and London Games.”
