Loughborough University voted ‘Best Student Experience’ in national awards

Loughborough University has won the prestigious Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) award for the UK’s Best Student Experience.

Voted for by students, the highly contested award was presented to representatives of the University at a glamorous ceremony in London last night (Wednesday November 15).

Almost 7,000 students took part in an online survey to decide which institution should hold the title. They were asked to rate various aspects of their University, including the courses, facilities, atmosphere and social life. The results were then calculated to give an average score for each institution by market research firm Opinionpanel.

Ben Marks, managing director of Opinionpanel, said: “Loughborough really excelled when it came to offering a social life, extracurricular activities, amenities and sports facilities, underpinned by exceptionally high ratings for its academic performance. Loughborough consistently was rated a score of six – very satisfied – or seven – the top score.”

Loughborough’s nomination for the award comes on the back of its excellent performance in this year’s National Student Survey, published in August.

Nine out of Loughborough’s 23 departments were rated top in their subject area, and overall the University was ranked in the top five universities among full-time students. Loughborough was also ranked 6th in this year’s Times Good University Guide, confirming it as one of the country’s leading higher education institutions.

Speaking about Loughborough’s latest honour, Professor Neil Halliwell, the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor said: “This award is testimony to the hard work and enthusiasm of all our staff at Loughborough and the excellent working relationship we enjoy with the Students’ Union.”

Gemma Godfrey, President of Loughborough Students’ Union, added: “This award confirms what we knew all along – that the Loughborough Experience is something unique, a feeling of enormous pride and belonging that we all share - something that our students are thrilled to be a part of! From the second our students arrive on campus, they become involved with as many activities as possible and love every minute of it – that’s what makes us who we are.”
