Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise appointed

Peter Winter has today been appointed Loughborough University’s first ever Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise (PVC(E)). This is a brand new post that reflects the University’s aims to build on its knowledge transfer achievements and to exploit further its intellectual assets.

As PVC(E), Peter will be instrumental both in achieving these aims and maximising the scope for innovation and creativity in the expansion of Loughborough University’s enterprise dimension.

Peter comes to Loughborough University from the University of Manchester, where he was Director of the Manchester Science Enterprise Centre. Prior to his six years at Manchester, Peter worked in a range of commercial, project management, production and engineering roles, plus three years in the Foreign Office as Counsellor at the British Embassy, Tokyo.

Peter holds degrees from Manchester Business School and the University of Birmingham; he is also a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a member of the Institute of Directors. Peter has just stepped down as Chairman of the UK Science Enterprise Centre Network.

Commenting on his new appointment, Peter said: “Enterprise and Innovation have been at the heart of Loughborough University for many years. It is both a delight and an honour to be invited to lead the further development of these key parts of the University's portfolio. I am very much looking forward to meeting new colleagues and exploring how we can best jointly fulfil both the University's and its staff’s ambitions in this area.”

Vice-Chancellor of Loughborough University, Professor Shirley Pearce, said: “I am delighted to welcome Peter to the University. His appointment will enable us to build on our many successes in enterprise and knowledge transfer to consolidate Loughborough at the forefront of UK higher education institutes.”
