Loughborough Swimmers out in force for World Championships

Elite swimmers from Loughborough University make up almost half of the Great Britain team heading over to Canada for the 2005 World Swimming Championships.

Taking place in Montreal from 24 to 31 July, the event provides the Loughborough swimmers with an excellent chance to bring home some medals.

University swimmers named in the GB team are:

Melanie Marshall
James Gibson
Caitlin McClatchey
Liam Tancock
Julia Beckett
Kate Haywood
Rosalind Brett

Ian Armiger, Director of Swimming at Loughborough University said: “Loughborough swimmers have taken medals at the previous two World Championships; Janine Belton (gold), Rosalind Brett and Melanie Marshall (silver) in Fukuoka in 2001, and James Gibson (gold) and Zoe Baker (bronze) in Barcelona in 2003.

“We are looking to maintain this record in Montreal. The preparations have gone well and the swimmers are relaxed and positive - it now comes down to the racing.”
