Expert coaching in football and rugby on offer throughout Easter

The immense popularity of Loughborough University’s Soccer Schools has prompted staff to introduce rugby training as well for Charnwood youngsters.

The soccer camps have now been running for three years during the school holidays and have attracted huge numbers. Sponsored by Loughborough Building Society, the sessions are run in association with Charnwood Borough Council and are staffed by qualified and experienced coaches.

The four-day Easter Soccer School is running from 21 – 24 March and is split into two time slots. Five to seven-year-olds can attend between 10.30am and 12.30pm, and the eight to 12-year-olds can attend from 10.30am until 3.30pm. The price for eight to 12-year-olds is £37, or £32 with a Borough Council Wild Card. For five to seven-year-olds the price is £17 or £15 with a Wild Card.

The three-day Rugby School will be taking place from 30 March to 1 April. Its aim is to develop participants’ skills, confidence and knowledge of the game of rugby, with the emphasis of the camp being enjoyment, active participation and development of the core skills of running, passing, tackling and contact.

The Rugby School is open to children aged between nine and 16 and will be led by Paul Westgate, head rugby coach at the University and current coach to England Universities and England Counties. Taking place from 9am - 4pm each day, the camp costs £40, or £35 with a Wild Card.

James Ellis, the University’s Community Sport Manager, said: “The Soccer Schools are always popular and we expect places to fill up fast. We are delighted to be able to extend our programme to include rugby, and we anticipate a high demand for the new course as well. If you don’t want to miss out book a place now!”
