Get illuminated!

Loughborough University is hoping to ignite young people’s interest in science by hosting a special Einstein event for school pupils and their families.

Taking place on Wednesday, March 9, the Family Higher Education Evening has been organised by the University’s Widening Participation team. It’s main aim is encourage more young people to consider studying science subjects at higher education level, as well as offering parents an insight into university life.

The evening is called ‘Get Illuminated - Einstein and his insight into the theory of light’, and takes place on campus in the James France Building from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. It is being led by the University’s Department of Chemistry and Department of Physics and will combine demonstrations and hands on activities to explain what makes up light and how it behaves in different environments.

Widening Participation officer, Mark Lister said: “This event is an excellent opportunity for local school pupils to discover just how exciting science can be. We hope it will spur some of them on to study a science subject at university, creating the next generation of Einstein’s!”

Admission to the event is free and a full cold buffet will be provided. Anyone interested in attending is asked to contact Mark Lister by calling 01509 222246 or emailing M.Lister@lboro.ac.uk
