New handbook aims to guide construction projects to success

A new handbook designed to help ensure construction projects meet business objectives has been published by the Loughborough University-based European Construction Institute (ECI).

The book, entitled ‘Project Development and Definition’, has been written by Chris Fox. It contains tools to enable best practice, as well as a wealth of information and good advice based on the author’s long career of responsibility for projects, mostly with the Royal Dutch Shell Group. Experienced professionals from other major ECI client members, including Air Products, AstraZeneca, BP, Procter and Gamble and Shell UK, also helped compile the guide.

The book was officially launched in September at the British Nuclear Group premises at Risley, near Warrington. Representatives from a number of leading companies attended the event, which included special presentations from Shell UK, who gave detailed examples illustrating some of the issues covered in the guide.

ECI is Europe’s only transnational learning and improvement network covering the entire project implementation supply chain. Established in 1990, it brings together experienced professionals from over 60 private and public sector organisations representing the whole spectrum of the construction industry. Its headquarters and UK base is at Loughborough University, and it also has operations in Italy and Benelux.

Copies of the handbook priced £60 (members £40) can be obtained from ECI, Sir Frank Gibb Annexe, West Park, Loughborough University, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 3TU, UK. For further information call 01509 223642, email eci@lboro.ac.uk, or visit http://www.eci-online.org where details of all ECI publications can be found.
