John Pearce


John Pearce was born on 6 July 1924. On demob after piloting Lancaster Bombers during the war, he studied Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough College from 1947 to 1952. He was President of the College Union. He was also branch chairman of the local student section of what later became the British Institute of Management.

After many years of involvement, John became President of the Guild of past students, and on its dissolution on the creation of the Alumni Association, he presented on behalf of the Guild the first major endowment to Loughborough University Development Trust.

John is also Chairman of the Past Students Association Charitable Trust which has funded projects such as the wild life garden, and a number of statues on campus. He has been a member of Court for many years, first representing the Guild and subsequently the Alumni Association.

He has been an active and committed member of our community for more than 50 years. Therefore Chancellor, I am delighted to present to you, for the award of the Loughborough University Medal, John Pearce.
