Jo Pearson joined the
University in 1985, working in the Recreation Unit, which is now
the Sports Development Centre. Always efficient, committed and
professional, Jo progressed within the organisation, from Clerical
Officer eventually to Events Manager, in charge of the entire
to the University has been immense, through a critical and challenging
period for the development of sports provision at Loughborough.
It is for her meticulous and committed organisation for which
Jo is most known and respected. Whether student sports tournaments,
commercial event days, charity festivals or our high profile international
sports events, such as the Loughborough International Athletics
match, or national and international championship finals, Jo’s
eye for detail and unstinting commitment to delivering a quality
occasion has become renowned across the University and beyond.
Rarely does one person’s role become synonymous with the
reputation of an institution, but Jo Pearson became the recognisable
personality behind sports events at Loughborough University for
over a decade.
Quality and professionalism
are standard at Loughborough, but Jo’s reputation in events
planning and delivery goes far beyond this, as an unflappable,
friendly resource, in a field fraught with the unforeseeable.
She always goes the extra mile to make visitors welcome, staff
valued and events a success at Loughborough, and she is respected
by all for that.
Jo has now moved to
a senior role with the England & Wales Cricket Board at the
National Cricket Academy on campus here, so it is a particular
pleasure to be able to honour her alongside Rodney Marsh. Her
abilities continue to benefit Loughborough University as well
as the ECB, and her commitment and her effective and friendly
approach remain undiminished.
I am delighted to present to you, for the award of the Loughborough
University Medal, Joanne Angela Pearson.
