GENERAL NURSE SERVICES

Walk in Service

The Practice and University nurses are available to give advice on general health matters and advice / treatment of minor illness.  The Walk in service is open from 09.00-11.45 and 14.00-16.00 Monday - Friday.

Our walk in service nurses have different skills.  To enable us to ensure you see the appropriate nurse, you will be asked by the receptionist which of the following numbers applies to your problem:

  1. Minor Injuries e.g. sports injuries, sprains, cuts, head injuries

  2. Minor Illness e.g. colds, sore throats, earaches, stomach problems, urinary problems, headaches, skin problems / rashes.

  3. Contraception e.g. urgent repeat prescription (but please try and book in the contraception clinic first) or emergency contraception

  4. Any other problems

Please note that if you need a repeat prescription for anti-depressive medication, please book a doctor's appointment so that your condition and medication can be reviewed.

Nurse Appointments

Appointments can be made for services such as ear irrigation (procedure to be confirmed by GP).  Appointments are available on a daily basis.

Health Care Assistant Appointments

Appointments can be made for services such as blood tests, blood pressure checks, dressings etc.  Appointments are avilable on a daily bais during term time.

 

Contraceptive Clinic / Advice

A full service is offered by all Doctors during normal surgery sessions. In addition we have 3 sessions a week for repeat contraceptive consultations with a practice nurse.

Cervical Smears

Appointments for cervical smears can be made in our cervical smear clinics. 

Travel Clinic

We offer travel advice consultations and relevant vaccinations for your intended trip.  Please book at least 8 weeks prior to travel.  In line with national guidance and the PCT policy, there is a charge for some travel vaccinations e.g. Yellow Fever, Hepatitis B as they fall outside the scope of the NHS.

Sexual Health Clinic

We provide advice on sexual health related issues and can undertake testing for a range of sexually transmtted infections.  As part of this service condoms are also provided.  Appointments are provided on most days, please contact the medical centre to make a convenient appointment.

Cryotherapy Clinic

This is a clinic for the treatment of warts and verrucas.

Minor surgery

Dr Bhojani undertakes a variety of minor operations in the surgery. These will be arranged after discussion with the doctor.

Ante-Natal Care

Patients are advised to make the first appointment with the doctor and thereafter care is shared between the midwife and doctor.

Child health

Surveillance is carried out by Dr Vaghela in conjunction with the Health Visitor.

Good Thinking Therapy

This service aims to support patients with mental health problems by providing access to cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).  If you feel you would benefit from this, please ask your GP for a referral to this service.
