Graduate School Funding Opportunities
The Graduate School is pleased to be able to offer a range of funding opportunities for our postgraduate students.
Graduate School Studentships and Glendonbrook Doctoral Fellowships
Graduate School Studentships and Glendonbrook Doctoral Fellowships are available for students with a UK/EU fee status. The Graduate School is normally able to make at least 50 awards of research studentships to cover fees and maintenance for three years.
The application deadline for the 2012 competition has now passed.
Santander Universities Scheme
The University offers five postgraduate taught scholarships, funded by the Santander Universities scheme. Email the
Postgraduate Taught Admissions Office for more details.
Through the Graduate School, the Santander Foundation also offers two streams of funding for travel awards and research and collaboration funding for work in Latin American Countries, Spain and Portugal. Email us for more details.
Travel and conference funds
The Graduate School Conference Fund This fund has been established to help research students who have successfully fulfilled their first year progression requirements to attend UK and international conferences during their period of study at Loughborough. Full details and eligibility information can be found on the application form.
Loughborough University Development Trust Awards These awards, made available by the Loughborough University Development Trust, are intended to support students in the first year of their PhD studies who wish to attend a UK or international conference. Full details and eligibility information can be found on the application form.
Prizes
The Graduate School Research Prize Nominations are invited for the Graduate School Research Student Prizes. Students from all Schools are eligible for nomination for the two prizes, each to the value of £600, which may be awarded to full-time or part-time postgraduate research students who have progressed beyond the first year of their research student registration, for outstanding academic performance and academic achievement.
Nominations should be made by a student's research supervisor only using the standard nomination form. As much information as possible should be provided.

Graduate School Research Culture Fund
This fund has been established in direct response to the Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) 2011 results and is intended to support and encourage student-led academic events across the University.
The fund can be used to support postgraduate student activities that enhance the research culture within and across Schools. Events that encourage collaboration across Schools and Research Schools will be looked upon favourably.
Events must be student led and open to all interested postgraduate students. Students are encouraged to put forward their own novel event proposals, however, examples of appropriate events include:
- Journal clubs
- Research student conferences
- Discussion groups, reading groups and writing groups
- Presentations and seminars
