Environmental Auditor Vacancy
Green Impact
Green Impact is an environmental accreditation scheme with an awards element, designed to encourage, support and celebrate university departments in making environmental improvements.
Across campus interested staff volunteered to participate in the scheme and received a workbook outlining achievable environmental changes. The outcomes from the scheme include reduced energy and water consumption, reduced carbon emissions, greater levels of recycling and compliant waste segregation but also an engaged, motivated workforce who are more aware of environmental issues and motivated to act upon this awareness in an environmentally responsible manner both at work and at home. All the criteria relate to practical actions, such as only using recycled copier paper, or putting awareness stickers next to light switches.
Depending on the number of environmental actions departments carry out, they can achieve either: a working towards accreditation, Bronze, Silver or Gold. All departments participating in Green Impact will need an audit to verify their level of achievement…and this is where you come in.
Role Description and Duties
We are looking for volunteer auditors to visit the departments and conduct audits of buildings where staff have been reducing the environmental impact of their department. Each volunteer auditor will be fully trained on the criteria and what they need to audit through a half-day of training. In pairs auditors will then complete one or more audits. An audit should take between one and two hours to complete depending on the size of the department.
Duties will include:
- Attending a full morning of comprehensive auditor training
- Undertaking a full walk-around audit of a University department according to the criteria set out.
- Talking with staff about their experiences/involvement
- Accurate assessment of compliance to criteria where applicable
- Note taking and recording of evidence
Training Provided
You'll receive training in the requirements of environmental auditing followed by a free lunch, and then first hand environmental auditing experience in the afternoon. No skills are required as we provide full training on the day; all we ask is that you can attend the morning training session and complete at least 1 audit at the university during the afternoon. Each audit will be completed in pairs and will take between 1-2 hours depending on the size of the department. Each auditor will receive a certificate at the end of the day to boost your CV.
Time Commitment
Training and Auditing will take place from 9.00am to 5.00pm on Thursday 8th March and lunch will be provided. The post of Environmental Auditor will contribute as an activity to the Loughborough Employability Award. There may be the possibility of undertaking further audits on Friday 9th March.
Skills gained
- First hand experience of environmental auditing including comprehensive training
- Evidence and data gathering
- An enhanced awareness of the environmental issues facing a large employer
- Experience in working with various university departments, including service, administration and academic.
- The ability to communicate effectively both informally and formally with a diverse section of staff.
Please complete the application form and return to m.kelly3@lboro.ac.uk by 12pm Friday 24th February.
