Whether you already have a career in mind, or you are unsure about your options, this section of the website will help you research and plan your next steps to ensure that you market yourself effectively in your applications.
This section offers advice on choosing a career and looks at the different options available such as applying for graduate schemes, going on to further study or making the most of taking some time out, either abroad or in the UK. For research staff and students this includes considering careers inside and outside academia in research and non research roles.
Getting Advice
The Careers and Employability Centre offer different types of appointments to help you get advice and guidance. For further information about booking appointment you can contact the Information Desk on 01509 222039.
Quick Advice Appointments
A careers adviser will check your CV, covering letters or application forms, answer quick queries or help you start your career planning.
Students: Monday to Friday 10.00 – 16.00. Appointments are 15 minutes. Bookable on the day only.
Research Staff: Wednesday 11.00 - 12.00. Appointments are 15 minutes. Bookable up to one week in advance.
Research Students (PhD): Wednesday 13.30 - 16.00. Appointments are 30 minutes. Bookable up to one week in advance.

How to book:
Online at Careers Online, call us on 01509 222 039 or drop in to the Careers and Employability Centre.
There may be further student quick advice appointments made available on the day and these will only be bookable at the information desk.
N.B. For CV checks, please ensure you bring a hard copy with you to your appointment.
Career Consultations
An appointment with the careers adviser responsible for your course or for researchers the adviser for research students or research staff. You can discuss your career options and ask questions.
Students: Monday to Friday 10.00, 11.00, 11.45, 14.00, 14.45 and 15.45 (appointment times may vary per advisor). Appointments are 45 minutes (30 minutes for Wolfson School).
Please note, that in the Autumn and Spring term students must have a Quick Advice Appointment before you can book a Career Consultation. These appointments are bookable at the Careers and Employability Centre.
Research Staff: Monday 11.00, 16.30, Tuesday 13.45, 16.30, Wednesday 13.00. Appointments are 45 minutes.
Research Students: Wednesday afternoon, or Thursday morning. Appointments are 1 hour.
All these appointments are bookable in advance in person or on 01509 222 039.
If you book over the phone and its your first careers consulation, please print and complete the relevant careers consultation form and hand to your adviser at your appointment.
