Special recognition for Physics Professor in gravitational waves discovery

A Loughborough visiting Professor has been given special recognition, after making headlines earlier this year for his contribution to the recent discovery of gravitational waves.

Professor Fabio Marchesoni was part of a team of physicists that supported three leading researchers, who are founders of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) group.

The group have been awarded the Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for the pioneering discovery, which is said to have confirmed a major prediction of Albert Einstein’s 1915 general theory of relativity.
