Five Loughborough University graduates selected for GB Women’s squad for Champions Trophy

Five former Loughborough University students have been selected for the women’s Great Britain team for the Champions Trophy, which is taking place at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Giselle Ansley, Maddie Hinch, Hannah Mcleod, Laura Unsworth and Nicola White are amongst the 18 that Head Coach Danny Kerry selected. For Unsworth, this will mark her fifth appearance at the Champions Trophy.

Similarly to the Great Britain’s men’s, this selection gives us a good indication of who will be heading to the Rio Olympic Games this summer and will be good preparation for the Games. Great Britain will start their campaign on the 18 June and will be taking on Argentina.

Ahead of the tournament, Great Britain Coach Danny Kerry said:

"We have selected a complimentary blend of combinations that is adaptable to the differing challenges we will face at the Champions Trophy. We have creativity, pace, and assuredness across the lines and we are all looking forward to the opportunity to play again at Lee Valley in the wonderful Olympic legacy venue.

The Champions Trophy this year will be interesting as I believe all of the teams competing are capable of winning the prestigious trophy. That should make for tight games decided on the finest of margins."
