GB Sevens name Olympic Games training squad

Great Britain has named 25 players to be part of the Men’s Sevens training squad in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympics. It is a wider squad that includes a combination of sevens specialists alongside some 15-a-side players from England, Scotland and Wales.

Loughborough University graduates Phil Burgess and Alex Davis are part of the group, which will gather at the end of the month for a 7-week intensive training period.

The Women’s Sevens squad, which consists of 23 players, continue to train full time in preparation for the Olympic Games. They will be participating in Rugby Europe’s tournament in Kazan in June, and an invitational event in Tinges in July.

Megan Jones, a current Loughborough student, is part of the training squad. It is a fantastic achievement for Megan, after missing around two years due to a long-term shoulder injury.

All three will hoping to make the final 12 player squads that will compete in the Brazilian capital this summer.
