Water, Engineering and Development Centre

Research and consultancy

Research at WEDC is focused on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in low- and middle-income countries. We are dedicated to providing evidence-based answers to the challenges that face the sector, not only relating to actions that need to be carried out to improve the health and well-being of communities, but also how to implement such actions. We also offer specialist advice through consultancies to underpin our research.

Specificaly we work to develop the underlying analysis of evidence to influence policy and practice. We work with many development sector partners around the world to enhance our collective impact. This is evident from the annual WEDC conference and WEDC’s example of Research Impact submitted to REF2014.

We have wide ranging experience with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary approaches and the key elements of sustainability including: functionality, institutional, financial, environmental and equity aspects. Evidence of the depth and breadth of WEDC's experience is shown in the links to project summaries under our main project themes and types of projects listed below.
