Mr Pubudu Dias BSc (Hons) Textile Process Engineering –University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka; PRINCE2, Project Management – APMG International, UK; ProfGradIMMM
I completed my bachelors degree in Textile Process Engineering at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 2011with a first class honours. After which, I joined MAS Intimates (Pvt) Ltd.,one of the leading innovative apparel solutions provider in Asia as a Research and Innovation Engineer. During my employment, I lead multiple innovation projects and got the opportunity to work closely with Textile Research Institutes, start-ups and apparel brands such as Victorias Secret, to develop technologies to satisfy unmet and undreamt consumer needs. My work involved textile composite development for a adult incontinence solutions, polymeric adhesive development for lingerie products, non woven material development for apparel and hygiene applications and wearable tech product development for lingerie applications. I am also a PRINCE2 registered practitioner in project management.
My research is primarily focussed on understanding mechanics of impacts in projectile sports, and will be initially looking into cricket chest guards. Almost all the protective gear standards are based on safety, which ultimately leads to compromises in performance and comfort. A significant amount of research has been carried out to understand each parameter separately yet, little has been done in understanding the compromise between safety, performance and comfort.
The aim of the project is to understand the ability of personal protective equipment to perform intelligently at times of compromise between safety performance and comfort, by sensing body vitals as well as external stimuli.
Out of the lab
Photography is my passion outside of the lab. I love travel as it gives my creative eye so many moments, to capture astounding landscapes, architecture and emotions. I also enjoy movies and music. Apart from all this, cricket has been a part of my life since childhood, and I was, I am and I always will be a great supporter of Sri Lankan cricket.
