Research Interests

A wide range of interests combining human performance with sport and fitness equipment innovation.

Current projects include a £1M+ grant entitled, "Personalised footwear: from elite to high street", which involves developing bespoke running shoes incorporating rapid manufactured components to optimise the mechanical properties of footwear for individual athletes.

Project partners include New Balance and UK Sport. Also in partnership with UK Sport, I'm investigating wheelchair ergonomics and wheelchair design for Paralympic athletes, in the first instance working with GB Wheelchair Basketball.

Other recent projects include the development and validation of outdoor play equipment in partnership with Playdale (www.intelligentplay.co.uk) and the development of technical sports apparel with a range of brands including Nike.

Teaching Interests

Module leader for a final year module entitled, "Sporting Goods Industry", which profiles the nature of the sector, incorporating individual brand case studies and explores innovation and product development processes within the sporting goods industry.

Contribution to a final year module entitled, "Footwear, Garments and Machines", where I focus on how brands develop, validate and market technical apparel. Case studies include high-tech garments commercialised by adidas, Nike and Speedo.
