Vicky Tolfrey invited to speak at ESRC Festival of Social Science event on Media and Disability
8 November 2012
The one-day symposium on Media and Disability has been organised by the Department of Media and Communication, University of Leicester and is part of the Economic and Social Research Council’s Festival of Social Science.
The symposium will cover issues of national as well as regional significance in relation to the way people with disabilities are treated in the mainstream media, both in the news and in fictional contexts. Relevant stakeholder groups will be present to express their views and to debate concerns they have about the ways in which disabled people are represented and used by the media.
Attendees will include national and local politicians with interests in disability issues, senior representatives from a number of major disability charities, activists and lobbyists who work on behalf of disabled communities, Paralympians, and academics.
Vicky will be speaking in the session themed ‘The Paralympics and Media Representation of Disability.'
