Trialling HELM Mathematics Resources for Engineering Students
HELM
have been extensively trialled here at Loughborough University
to teach mathematics to several thousand engineering students
over a number of years. HELM
trials are currently taking place at about 20 HEIs in the UK and
list of is available here. Trialling outside Loughborough is increasing as
new materials are developed.
We
are now offering HE institutions the opportunity to trial
HELM
resources. You can use them to support the teaching of a complete
mathematics module, or part of it, to engineering students. Alternatively
your students can use the resources for independent learning.
Why Trial?
Triallists can access all the
HELM
- free.
They can:
-
Use the high quality printed HELM
.
-
Use the associated HELM
.
-
Try the HELM
.
What Can HELM Provide?
The HELM
project can support your teaching of mathematics to engineering
students through :
- Masters
of the printed materials so that trialling institutions can
prepare their own student copies.
-
Free access to the HELM
Computer Aided Learning (CAL)
web site.
- Advice
on Computer Aided Assessments (CAA) advice.
Please Note that a CD is now available which allows users who do not
have access to Question Mark Perception software to try a taster test from the HELM computer aided assessment regime.
- Visits:
A member of the project team can visit you to demonstrate
HELM
materials or you can visit the HELM
project team at Loughborough and see the resources.
- HELM
at
which triallists can share experiences - the next is in February
2004.
-
Some limited financial support towards the cost of travel expenses to
HELM
meetings.
What Does HELM Want From Triallists?
Feedback from both staff and students - we can provide suitable
questionnaires.
