Outputs and Worksteps

The research project  runs from the beginning of July 2002  through to 31st December 2003. During this time the project will comprise of six worksteps  these are listed below with a brief explanation. As the worksteps are completed the relevant documents or reports will be added to the web site and accessible by means of Pdf .

Workstep 2: Collection and Analysis of New Data
New data will be collected on current healthy design practices though interviews.  Details will be gathered of those construction processes that impact most on key health issues (e.g. manual handling, vibrating tools) along with data on design strategies and training.  Click on the Pdf logo to view a paper on the results

Workstep 1: Review of work
Review of work completed in other sectors of the industry and of construction practices in other countries, particularly with regard to designing-out health risks

Workstep 3: Guideline Development & Evaluation
Healthy design guidelines will be established, drawing together the findings from steps 1 & 2, tailored to suit building and civil engineering and highlighting distinctive elements from other sub-sectors (e.g. demolition).

Workstep 4: Requirement Spec for Healthy Design
The results of step 3 will be drawn together, allowing final specification of the healthy design process.  To maximise industrial ownership of the guidelines, content and structure will be agreed with the steering group

Workstep 5: Dissemination
Guidance, in the form of an interactive CD, will be prepared for wide circulation within the construction industry. Seminars will be organised to launch the CD, championed by Rethinking Construction/M4I-'Respect for People' in collaboration with ECI-ACTIVE.

Workstep 6: Implementation
Following the launch, support will be provided for organisations seeking to implement the CD guide and tools.  This will be done in close collaboration with Rethinking Construction.
