Retaining wall construction is a specialised process and will vary considerably from project to project. D4h has listed the common retaining wall types below. Health hazards and actions are similar to the other building elements shown in D4h. However, D4h recommends the designer obtain specialist advice for their chosen retaining wall method.

Step 3- Retaining walls

Follow the same activities and health issues similar to insitu bored piling. However there additional health hazards with the use of bentonite slurries and ground anchors this will vary depending upon the project circumstances.

Component systems

Diaphram walls:

Follow the same activities and health issues similar to a precast concrete frame but with more but with more potential for contaminated ground exposure and ground anchor hazards.

Follow the same activities and health issues similar to an insitu concrete frame but with more but with more potential for contaminated ground exposure and ground anchor hazards.

Insitu concrete

Precast concrete

Component systems are retaining walls that are typically built using small building elements which are then pieced together to form the wall. The design should consider musculoskeletal (MSD's) problems through manual handling  and poor posture in addition to contaminated ground exposure.
