Ronan O’Meara is now Project Manager with Right Road Renewables in County Kildare, Ireland.

Here he explains the benefits of taking his MSc via Distance Learning.

"I am a structural engineer, but due to the downturn in the Irish construction industry, I decided to re-focus my career towards renewable energy.

After a bit of research into the various courses available in the UK and Ireland, I figured that CREST was one of the best on offer – indeed, some courses in other colleges were actually using teaching material licensed from CREST!

Studying by distance also suited me perfectly, as I didn’t need to travel and could fit the lectures in around my work.

I found the quality of the course video lectures to be excellent – the ability to pause a lecture, go for a cup of tea and then press play again was an added bonus of being a DL student! The discussion forums are also a good opportunity to learn from others and they are well monitored by the tutors. On a one-to-one level the DL team and tutors were a great help to me and very quick with email responses too.

I also found that my project on wind energy gave me very useful knowledge and experience that has helped the development of my career."
